Like New York's state parks? There's an app for that.

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has launched a free iOS app called Oh, Ranger!

The app lets you get information on more than 200 state parks, historic sites, golf courses, campgrounds, and nature centers. You can check amenities, directions, maps, numbers, and links.

"This tool is a great use of technology and the perfect customer service enhancement," Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said in a statement. "More and more of our 58 million visitors each year are utilizing smart phones, and this new app will provide accurate, up to date data to explore the outdoors."

Even if you find yourself in a park with neither wireless Internet nor cellphone service, you can still access much of the app's information because a lot of it is viewable offline.

American Park Network developed the app as a public service at no cost to state taxpayers, according to a news release.

An Android version of the app is on the way, too.

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation oversees 178 state parks and 35 historic sites across New York.

You can download the app at the iTunes store or at NYParks.com.
