HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says the relationships he built on his recent 10-day visit to China could lead to valuable business deals back home.

Malloy returned home Monday. The trip was the most ambitious yet for the first-term Democrat, who maintains that his travels around the world and regular visits to Washington are aimed at boosting the state's clout and its economic development efforts.

His critics question whether Malloy is trying to raise his political profile -- something he denies.

Since taking office in 2010, Malloy has made at least 30 trips, according to travel records obtained by The Associated Press.

State Republican Chairman Jerry Labriola said if Malloy wants to improve Connecticut's economy, he should focus on things to make the state more business-friendly, such as cutting corporate taxes.
