A college freshman walking home from class in the Financial District was knocked unconscious when he was hit by a mattress that was apparently blown off the roof of a high-rise.
"I would have preferred to have not been hit by a mattress, but I'm trying not to complain," Jesse Scott Owen told the Post.
It happened at around 1 p.m. Tuesday on Broad Street as Owens was headed to the subway.
Owens said his mother freaked out when she found out about the bizarre episode. "The police called her and she said, ‘Oh, no, he's arrested!' They said, ‘He got injured,' " he recalled. "She said, ‘Oh, my goodness!' "
Owens, 18, is a Florida native studying journalism at King's College.
Heavy winds blew the mattress was blown off the 34th- floor lounge of the Setai Wall Street residential tower.
Owens was briefly unconscious and was taken to a hospital for treatment of a herniated disc in his neck.
