NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say they plan to resume their search for a man who reportedly was seen in the Niagara River near the brink of Niagara Falls and may have been swept over.

New York State Park Police say witnesses reported seeing the man go into the river at Niagara Falls State Park around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Police and firefighters searched the riverbank near the brink of the falls, and a helicopter from the sheriff's office in neighboring Erie County searched the river below the falls.

The search was suspended around 11 p.m. A park police dispatcher says the search will resume at daylight Thursday.

Police say they haven't been able to confirm yet that anyone went over the portion of the falls known as the American Falls.
