A trend appears to be emerging at eateries in New York City where patrons are upping the amount they tip for better service.

Consumer experts told the N.Y. Post that suggested gratuities that run 25-30 percent are becoming more common on restaurant bills.

Traditionally, a 20 percent tip on a bill is an indication of very good service.

Tip jars in places ranging from bodega cashiers to hardware clerk counters are also a growing trend.

Good Day New York spoke with a worker at La Luca Cafe on Manhattan's Upper East Side who said he sees more, higher tips.

"They do tip higher than 20 percent and I believe the recession has nothing to do with tipping," the man said.

When it comes to bar tabs-- once tip free-- an automatic 18 percent gratuity is sometimes added to the bill.
