DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) -

They made their mark on the world and now they've literally made their mark in the city. A number of famous Detroiters are featured in the Historical Society's new Legends Plaza.

The attraction pays tribute to famous Detroiters whose cemented handprints and signatures are permanently displayed throughout the exhibit.

"These are the stories. These are the people that make us Detroit and we're proud of it," said Bob Sadler, Director of Public & External Relations at the DHS.

An opening ceremony was held Wednesday. Among those featured in the castings include: Juan Atkins, Mayor Dave Bing, Alice Cooper, Carl Craig, Joe Dumars, Eddies Fowlkes, Tommy Hearns, Gordie Howe, Mike and Marian Ilitch, Al Kaline, Elmore Leonard, Ted Lindsay, Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Dick Purtan, Sam Raimi, Martha Reeves, Barry Sanders, Kevin Saunderson, and Lily Tomlin.

"We wanted to pay tribute to them and make their memory last forever," said Bob Bury, CEO and Executive Director at DHS.

The newly renovated Detroit Historical Museum will reopen Friday, Nov. 23 with free admission for 60 straight hours throughout Thanksgiving weekend.
