Help sought for 23 dogs rescued on Long Island

Posted: Updated:

FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (AP) - Help is being sought for 23 malnourished dogs that were rescued from a Long Island home earlier this month.

The Brookhaven Animal Shelter needs money, blankets, towels, food and volunteers to help care for the animals.

The pit bulls also were covered with bite marks when they were taken from the home in Shirley on Sept. 9.

Councilwoman Jane Bonner tells CBS New York that the dogs were kept in "appalling" conditions.

People who want to help can go to http://www.htaf.org or call the shelter at 631-286-4940.
