The NYPD and the Brooklyn District Attorney's office say they recovered 85 weapons during a gun buyback program, including 40 revolvers and an assault rifle.

The program was held Saturday morning at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Those who turned in weapons received a $200 gift card and authorities also recovered 28 semi-automatic handguns, nine rifles and two shotguns.

Police say seven of the weapons were loaded and one of the guns recovered was a Tec-9 semi-automatic.

The gun buyback initiative is designed to remove illegal guns off the streets by offering a $200 reward for each eligible weapon surrendered, no questions asked. Participant received a $200 bank card for operable handguns and a $20 bank card for operable rifles and shotguns.

The program was launched in Brooklyn in July 2008 and last June, 70 guns were turned in at one church as part of the Gun Buyback program.

Guns had to be placed in a plastic or paper bag or a box. If transporting the gun by car, the gun had to be transported in the trunk of the car. Participants could turn in as many guns as they wanted but only received payment for up to three guns.
