DETROIT (myFOXDetroit.com) -

Where is Shantee Brown? The 39-year-old from Detroit is accused of raping a woman at gunpoint eight years ago.

The woman was walking to work at Brush and Euclid east of Woodward in 2004. Police say Brown kidnapped her and at gunpoint, forced her into an abandoned building and then raped her.

A DNA match linked Shantee Brown to the rape. He was arrested in May 2012. Locked up in the county jail, Brown was freed in July.

Circuit Court Judge Cynthia Gray Hathaway gave him a bond, just 10 percent of $250,000. Brown walked out of the county jail wearing an electronic tether. He was ordered to appear in court Thursday charged with rape, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon and using a gun in a felony.

However, Brown was a no-show for his Thursday court appearance. That is because electronic data reveals Brown cut his tether off just before 2:00 a.m. the morning he was due in court.

Judge Hataway released the following statement.

"I am aware of Shantee Brown cutting his tether. The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office and the GPS Tether Unit are conducting a search. I am recommending urgent apprehension of Mr. Brown."

Why was Brown allowed a bond in the first place? That same question was raised when Judge Hathaway allowed a bond for Jason Gibson. Gibson, a convicted felon, was arrested with a firearm. He was given a bond and wound up shooting and killing Detroit Police Officer Brian Huff. Gibson is now spending life in prison.

So where is Shantee Brown? Detroit Police and the Wayne County Sheriff are also participating in this manhunt. If you have seen Brown, call 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
