Barking dogs in Brooklyn fined by city

MYFOXNY.COM -

It's rare for New York City to issue citations over a barking dog. But two dogs in Marine Park, Brooklyn, were so loud that an inspector did act.

Both dogs fined live right next door to each other. Owners say the dogs egg each other on.

One of those dogs is Maxwell. I must admit when I met him his bark was loud, he is intimidating but his owner says all Maxwell is guilty of is being overprotective.

The 9-year-old German shepherd may be friendly but he can also be really loud. Maxwell's owner, Joe Butrico, says Maxwell's bark is much bigger than his bite. It's the bark though that's now putting Joe in the dog house.

The city fined him $70 because Maxwell barks too much.

Since 2005 the city received nine complaints about Maxwell.

The dog next door racked up 10 complaints in the last four years alone, making them probably the loudest pooches in the city.

Hopefully Joe can figure out a way to keep Maxwell quiet because tickets can go up to $525.

It's really rare to even get a ticket for dog barking. In the last year, only 14 dog owners received fines.

  • The city will send warning letters before issuing a ticket, DNAinfo.com reported.
  • Summons: $70-$525
  • Rules: No unreasonable noise for more than 10 minutes, 7 a.m.-10 p.m., or no longer than 5 minutes, 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.
