Police and security forces on campuses of the State University of New York, the City University of New York, and private universities were put on alert after bomb threats were made to universities around the country, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
"While there are no reports of any threats on SUNY, CUNY or private campuses in New York State, the safety of our students and the security of our campuses is our top priority," Cuomo said in a statement. "SUNY and CUNY campuses have been alerted to the threats happening nationally and are following standard procedures to ensure the safety and security of students, faculty, and our campus communities. I encourage all students, faculty and New Yorkers to remain vigilant and to contact local law enforcement in case of an emergency."
Cuomo said he ordered the director of state operations, the state's homeland security commissioner, and the chancellor of SUNY to monitor the situation around the country and "be prepared" in case threats are made to colleges in New York.
