Young man shot and killed in family's Newark bodega

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -

A young man working in his family's Newark deli has been shot and killed during an apparent robber, law enforcement officials said.

Jamil Bader Jr., 18, was working in his family's corner store around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday when two men attempted to rob it, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

The robbers shot Bader in the head.

Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio expressed dismay at Bader's killing and is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects, who remain at large.

DeMaio said olice are making "every effort" to bring the suspects to justice.
