1 dead, at least 2 injured in Mount Vernon fire

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) - One man has died and at least two other people are injured after a fire broke out in an apartment building in Mount Vernon.

The Journal News reports that the three-alarm fire started at 7:37 p.m. Thursday.

It started on the building's third floor and traveled up to the fifth floor before firefighters were able to extinguish it.

A man's body was found inside a third-floor apartment. His name was not immediately released.

The extent of injuries to others in the building was not known. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
