DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) -
Frustrated Detroiters showed up to give Mayor Dave Bing an earful of boos during a community meeting Thursday night.
A crowd packed with off-duty Detroit police officers, firefighters and other municipal union members filled the Charity Lutheran Church on Kelly Road. Bing, along with other members of his administration, were required by the city charter to be in attendance.
"Mayor Bing, I do not know what you can take away from us next," cried out one angry Detroit woman. "Our children are not being educated. We have no security. We have no streetlights. I am surprised at you Dave Bing. You have sold us out, mayor. And you know you're wrong."
Many in the crowd were upset over a 10 percent police and fire pay cut.
"The reaction in the room was due to the lack of concern for the safety of the city in Detroit," said Officer Baron Coleman, who attended the meeting. "When you take officers and dismiss them by taking their pay, taking their benefits and making them feel unwanted, you take away from the city of Detroit. You take away from the people."
On Wednesday, a judge struck down two sections of an agreement between the state and Detroit to fix the city's finances that were used to cut pay to police officers and firefighters. The decision could hamper Bing's efforts to impose wage cuts to save money.
The city is reviewing the ruling. An appeal is planned by the state.
This isn't the first time public safety supporters have voice their opinions in public. Boos and heckles rained down on the Bing administration during another public meeting held back in July.
