The Bayonne Bridge was closed Friday for nearly seven hours following a crash and police investigation.
Port Authority police spokesman Al Della Fave says a van was crossing the Bayonne Bridge when it crossed the center line and struck another vehicle around 4 a.m.
A man and a woman in the car were injured.
Fave says the driver of the van jumped into a pickup that had stopped to assist and drove off.
The black Dodge 1500 pickup with New York license plates that read SALSA was found abandoned in Staten Island.
Traffic remained backed up for several miles from New Jersey into Staten Island.
The span connects Bayonne with Staten Island.
The accident was cleared and the bridge reopened just before 11 a.m.

The van rear-ended a Taxi and Limousine Commission vehicle at the corner of Church Ave. and Utica Ave. at about 7:45 a.m., said police. One of the pedestrians that was struck by the van was taken to Brookdale Hospital. Four other victims were taken to Kings County Hospital.
