Arrest in vicious beating of homeless man

A 23-year-old man is under arrest in the vicious beating of a homeless man.  The incident left the victim fighting for his life in critical condition.

Taevon Smith was arrested Tuesday in connection with the beating outside of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal on Staten Island.

The attack took place at around 2:30 a.m. Aug. 30.  Police say the homeless man was beaten and then thrown onto Richmond Terrace, where was run over by a SUV.

Smith was expected to be arraigned in Stapleton Criminal Court on Wednesday on attempted murder, assault and attempted robbery charges.
