WASHINGTON, DC -
Libya's ambassador to Washington is condemning the killing of the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans in an attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.
Ali Aujali said Wednesday that the killing of Ambassador Chris Stevens was a great loss for Libya. He called Stevens a friend and a great diplomat, and said they two had played tennis together.
Aujali said, "He was the right man for the right position at the right time."
The attacks were carried out Tuesday night by protesters angry over a film that ridiculed Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
Aujali spoke at a news conference organized by the Islamic Society of North America. He called the attacks horrible and offered condolence to the families of the slain Americans. He also criticized the film as insulting.
