Just as everyone grieves in their own way, there were many different kinds of events in the Twin Cities to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on Tuesday

Even after 11 years, people still have vivid memories of the terrorist attacks that shook the nation -- especially those with personal connections to the victims.

"I was a fraternity brother with Tom Burnett, who was on Flight 93," recalled Ivan Silverman.

Burnett and nearly 3,000 other men and women never made it home on Sept. 11, 2001. Penny Clauson was in New York for work the week before the attacks. When the towers fell, she immediately went back to work at Ground Zero, giving food to firefighters and first responders.

"It was a great experience, but I don't want my kids to forget," she told FOX 9 News.

With that in mind, Clauson and her family continue to see Sept. 11 as a day of service. This year, they packed thousands of meals with Second Harvest Heartland West..

Over Highway 10 in Coon Rapids, a tribute as simple as flags and a wave to passing commuters served as a reminder that Americans are still keeping the victims and heroes of that day in their hearts.

Nearly every person who spoke with FOX 9 News agreed that all Americans need to take a moment to put aside their differences and come together.
