Family and friends, expressing sadness and outrage, said goodbye to Reynaldo Cuevas, 20, in Morningside Heights.
Cuevas was killed early Friday morning by an NYPD officer who was responding to an armed robbery at the bodega in the Bronx where Cuevas worked to provide for his 3-year-old daughter.
Cuevas bolted from the store in an attempt to escape death when he ran straight into an armed police officer, Commissioner Ray Kelly has said. That officer's gun accidentally discharged and killed Cuevas, Kelly said. The commissioner has apologized for the incident and called it a tragic accident.
The family sees it differently. They say they are seeking justice for Reynaldo and have asked Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson to investigate this incident.
Cuevas will be buried in the Dominican Republic next to his father, who was also killed in an armed robbery two years ago.
