Kerry Kennedy changes attorneys

ARMONK, N.Y. (AP) -

Kerry Kennedy has switched her attorneys. She appeared in North Castle Town Court Tuesday with her new attorneys, who asked a judge to push back her case to November to give them time to prepare.

Kennedy was charged July 13 with driving while impaired with drugs. Police said she swerved across I-684 in North Castle and swiped a tractor trailer. She has pleaded not guilty.

Tests found a small amount of a sleeping drug in Kennedy's blood. She said she believes she accidentally took a sleeping pill.

The driver whose tractor-trailer was hit has pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an accident. The driver said he continued on because his truck was undamaged.

Kennedy is a daughter of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, niece of President John F. Kennedy, and ex-wife of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
