Web searches for celebrities can pose malware risk

Emma Watson, Jessica Biel, and Sophia Vergara are some of the hottest names in show business today. Not surprisingly, they are also the most searched celebs on the Internet. But did you know Googling these stars can damage your computer?

For the sixth year the software security company MacAfee has compiled a list of "most dangerous celebrities" to search for online.

Topping this year's list are Emma Watson, Eva Mendes, Megan Fox, Selena Gomez, and Sophia Vergara.

They are so popular and there is so much data available on these stars that cybercriminals are luring unsuspecting internet users to what they think is that celebrity's website.

Mashable's Lance Ulanoff says you might instead land on a webpage that delivers malware to your computer, potentially stealing your identity.

According to MacAfee you have a 12.6 percent chance of landing on an Emma Watson website that has tested positive for a virus of some kind.

You should know that this can happen during any search. That is why Ulanoff suggests using anti-malware software on your computer. A good program can catch the most destructive viruses out there.
