DETROIT (WJBK) -

According to my sources and the physical evidence, an SUV was stolen outside the Manoogian Mansion early Sunday morning, possibly 7:15 a.m., in a smash and grab and a push.  And guess what?  It was a cop's private car who was working there.

It's another barometer of how low things are going in the city.  Mayor Bing with 20 cops assigned to him.  24 hour patrols around the neighborhood.  Cameras on the porch, a police bunker in the basement, and still crime at the front door.

"I lived in the neighborhood for many... years during... Kilpatrick's administration and we never, ever experienced anybody's vehicle being stolen in front of the Manoogian Mansion," said Danetta L. Simpson.

"No one's immune to crime, not even the mayor.  The City of Detroit has an absent mayor and so does the Manoogian Mansion, absent landlord," said Detroit Police Officer John Bennett.

Here's what else happened in Detroit this weekend.  Two Detroit cops were mugged and a little old lady, Ida, the mother of a cop.

"From now on, I'm coming on my porch with a gun, period," she said.

It took the police nearly four hours to come to her house after someone stuck a gun to her face and ripped a necklace off her throat, and that's only after her son, the cop, called in a favor.

"That's all there is to it, and if I have to use it, I will.  That's the truth."

Like Ida's saying, if your property is not safe in front of the mayor's house and a cop's mom is not safe on her own porch, then what's that say?

Editor's Note: In his video report, Charlie LeDuff explained he called the mayor's office for comment.  Standing outside city hall, he then said, "Here it is..." and looked around in dead silence.
