Construction worker killed in building collapse

MYFOXNY.COM -

A portion of a building under construction in Brooklyn came crashing down Monday morning killing one worker and injuring two others, said officials.

The FDNY and emergency crews responded to the site at 227 Carlton Ave. in Fort Greene at about 9:15 a.m.

Two of the workers were pulled from the basement and rushed to Brooklyn Hospital. One of the victims suffered cardiac arrest, another suffered a shoulder injury and was in serious condition. A third worker was in stable condition, reported the Associated Press.

Three others refused medical attention.

It is not clear what caused a portion of the four-story brownstone located next to a church to collapse.

Police say the building's foundation may have been compromised after a delivery to the roof of construction materials.

There are unconfirmed reports a beam carrying five workers gave way sending two on the roof to the basement.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

New Yorkers that have visited City Island in the summer know it gets really busy, especially on Memorial Day weekend. Saturday, it was pretty much a ghost town thanks to the cold, rainy weather.

New Yorkers know that finding street parking is not easy. Drivers can circle for a minute or even an hour – and even then you still may not find that parking spot.
