The National Weather Service said an EF1 tornado touched down in Canarsie, Brooklyn Saturday morning. The NWS said 110 mile per hour winds knocked down trees and power lines and damaged homes.

The Canarsie tornado ripped off parts of roofs that sent debris was flying around Avenue N and Carnarsie Road and East 92nd Street between Seaview Avenue and Avenue N. The tornado then traveled across road on the Belt Parkway near the Flatbush exit.

"We got a call that a tornado was approaching, I said that can't be happening," said Devante Barrett.

But it did happen here on Canarsie Road right in front of Devante Barrett's mother's house. Both weren't home when the tornado hit. Fortunately their home and car were spared.

According to the NWS, the tornado in Brooklyn traveled about a half a mile and it left behind fallen power lines and debris from trees everywhere.

That was incredible, everything but the cow," said Barrett.

The tornado also knocked down trees in Canarsie Park. A viewer snapped a picture of the ominous funnel cloud from Coney Island Beach looking towards the Rockaways.

Neighbors say the tornado came as quickly as it went and despite some damage, they are feeling very relieved.

"That was the shocking part, I am so happy that no one got hurt," said Barrett.

There have been no reports of any serious injuries and people here on this block got their power back on.
