Jersey Central Power and Light said thousands of utility customers in New Jersey were without power as severe thunderstorms moved through the region on Saturday.
Authorities say most of the outages were in northern Jersey which was hardest hit by the line of storms that contained damaging winds, hail and heavy rain. The powerful storms downed trees and damaged power lines, but no serious injuries were reported.
A tornado watch issued earlier in the day for five northern counties was canceled just before 7 p.m., and the storm was out of the state about an hour later.
JCP&L said about 2,000 customers had no electricity late Saturday night and about 3,700 PSE&G customers are still without service.
