New Jersey issued severe storm warning

Posted: Updated:

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued Passaic, Union, Bergen and Essex counties in Northeast New Jersey until 5:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service Doppler radar at 3:45 p.m. indicated a severe line of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.

The storms are located along a line extending from 46 miles west of West Milford to 53 miles west of Plainfield to 48 miles west of Plainfield to 67 miles Southwest of Plainfield or along a line extending from 33 miles west of Hopatcong to 42 miles west of Succasunna-Kenvil to 32 miles northeast of Ewing to 39 miles west of Ewing and moving East at 45 mph.

The Doppler radar has indicated rotation within some storms in the line but not likely a tornado could develop.

The NWS say if a tornado is spotted to quickly move to a place of safety in a sturdy structure such as basement or small interior room and stay away from windows.
