MYFOXNY.COM -

Friends of Firefighters a Brooklyn-based nonprofit organization formed by a housewife after the September 11 attacks offers first responders with everything from financial advice to counseling.

Even though it's 11 years after 9/11 the healing continues not only for those who lost family and friends in the WTC attacks but for those who charged into the building to help save lives.

Though Friends of Firefighters started as a one-woman army the organization is now based out a late 1800s firehouse in Red Hook.

Active and retired New York firefighters including -- firefighters from Engine Company 202, Ladder 101 -- are helping to restore the firehouse. To them it's a labor of love and for many a form of therapy.

The group needs funding to continue to offer its services.
