Qasawa’s attorney calls him innocent “collector” of explosives

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (MyFoxDetroit) -

Alaa Qasawa's attorney, Mitch Ribitwer, says Qasawa is a "collector" of explosives and never had any evil intentions. Qasawa's  franchised Tubby's sub shop was raided by the FBI on Wednesday, along with his residence in West Bloomfield, where authorities carried out evidence in large boxes.

The FBI investigated Qasawa's "collection" for all things explosive, detailed in a nine-page criminal complaint released to FOX 2 from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Qasawa allegedly purchased several guns, fuses, replica grenades, and other materials online.  The feds were contacted by someone who was filling his orders, suspicious by his activity.

But Qasawa's attorney says his purchases were with interests of replicating them for the Fourth of July. Ribitwer claims, "He has no evil intent. He has no malicious intent, and none of these products were intended to be used for an evil purpose."

Tubby's Grilled Submarines has learned of the incident.  The CEO says they are "surprised and shocked by this development, given Mr. Qasawa's history as a good franchisee/store operator."

They are ready to, if need be, "take all actions necessary to protect its brand and reputation," as things develop with Qasawa's case.
