Detroit (MyFoxDetroit) -

Erimma Jones was sick of looking at the waist-high weeds and unkempt grass in her Detroit neighborhood. So she banded her family together and they all did something about it.  They cleaned up the neighborhood.

Jones says she mainly wanted to do this so she could do the "dancing in the street thing" for her 64th birthday coming up. With the help of her niece, this grandma of twelve and great-grandma of one gathered relatives and took back their block.

Jones has lived in the neighborhood since 1973.  She says the years have taken their toll. "One by one we had a couple of drug wars over here where they would bomb the houses," she told us. Now only five houses on the block are lived in.

She has two heart stents and recently had surgery, but that hasn't slowed her down. The neighborhood even plans to bring back the old school block party in honor of her birthday.
