VERNON, N.J. -

A 9/11 memorial that was removed from a New Jersey courtroom after the judge warned it could be used as a weapon has a temporary home.

The seven-foot-tall, 275-pound sculpture, called In Memory, will remain in the Sussex County Community College's Center for Performing Arts until Oct. 20.

The tower was removed from the Vernon municipal court after a judge warned it could be used as a weapon. The courtroom is also where the town council meets.

The sculpture consists of 691 cut, shaped, and fused acrylic cylinders.

Sculptor Everett Paladini created it to honor the 691 New Jersey residents who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Paladini tells the New Jersey Herald  he would like his work of art to have a permanent home.

The college is hosting the county's annual 9/11 ceremony on Sunday. It's unclear if the sculpture will be included.
