Storm Brings Down Tree On 3 Cars In South Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:

William Comer had one thought when walked outside his McKeen Street home in south Philadelphia.

"I should've went to work today," laughed Comer. Surprisingly he has a sense of humor after a tree he'd been complaining about to the city came crashing down on his Volvo and pickup truck. It also grazed a neighbor's car. It happened around four o'clock Tuesday in the midst of a heavy downpour.

"It sounded like someone was dragging a bag of leaves and I looked out the window and saw the tree had fallen down."  Comer says he started calling the city in April about the dead tree and eventually Fairmount Park workers came to check it out.

Comer says, "They said it was dead when they came out and inspected the tree. They saw it was dead and said it has to be removed." But four months later that still hadn't happened until mother nature took care of it and at Comer's expense. Now he's left to figure out who's liable and how long it will take to get both his cars fixed.

"I can't see what damage the Volvo has. But the truck's windshield is cracked, the hood is dented, and the window is busted on the passenger side. The frame is busted also."
