CLAWSON, Mich. (MyFoxDetroit) -

Lynch and Sons Funeral Home is providing arrangements for 103-year old Gussie Weaver, after her family was left to deal with a void prepaid funeral contract. The family had no access to the near $10,000 she left behind.

When they went to plan her funeral they learned Harold D. Murdock Funeral Home did not exist anymore.  Even more, Harold Murdock had died in February, leaving all his businesses tied up in probate court.

Pat Lynch from Lynch and Sons Funeral Home came forward and offered to help. He is providing services and products while helping recover the money Gussie set aside.

He says Michigan law requires funeral homes to redeposit prepaid funds within 30 days to a third-party account. That way if the funeral home goes out of business the money is still accessible.

Gussie's funeral will be on Saturday. She will be buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where her grave was also donated. She was a secretary for Ford Motor Company in her youth.

Note: The Murdock funeral home is no longer in business. The new venture in the building, Chapel Hill Funeral Home, is not affiliated with Murdock.
