Monday marks the unofficial end of summer and on the Jersey Shore, business owners sat they could have used a while longer.
The business owners say despite the nice weather this year business was not as good as they had hoped.
"This year we are trying to be as frugal as possible," said Matthew Mosiello.
That's not exactly what any merchant on Long Branch, New Jersey wants to hear on Labor Day weekend when it's the last chance of the season to draw in big crowds.
Mosiello and his wife have good reason to pinch pennies this summer -- their daughter Lilly was born in May.
"This summer we are spending less," said Shabana Mosiello.
"We are staying as close to home as possible before we go to Long Branch and Asbury Park," said Shabana Mosiello.
The Mosiello's expanding their family may be the reason they are spending less money on summer vacation but what about everybody else?
Business owners down the shore say they are simply not doing as well as last year.
"Last year was busier than this year," said Enrique Attanasio of Michael Angelo Pizzeria.
They are busy at Michael Angelo's Pizzeria but not as busy as they would like to be.
"We have had to put a lot of things on sale. We've been selling a lot but it's been on sale like previous years," said Miles Illion of Aloha Gove Surf Shop.
At the Aloha Grove Surf Shop employees blame hot days and rainy nights on a slump in sales.
Nearby at the Koi Boutique, the owner thinks this summer's sweltering days may be part of the problem.
"We're finding when it is uncomfortably hot nobody wants to try on clothes," said Rich Yanni of Koi Boutique.
The official sales numbers don't come back for a few weeks but everyone is hopeful that next summer sales will be better.
