On the first Monday of September, the nation honors the workers who built the world's strongest economy.

The U.S. Department of Labor also approaches a centennial celebration on Monday and the holiday marks the last big summer weekend on Coney Island while beachgoers and tourists enjoy the holiday, businesses old and new are hoping to finish up strong.

Attractions near the Coney Island boardwalk drew visitors from around the tri-state area and the world.

Business owner say traffic is about the same as last year. NY Scoops Brooklyn Ice Stand, where you can get two scoops for a dollar, was a popular stop.

The boardwalk was crowded and the beach was umbrella with thousands of people out on the last Sunday of the summer season. It was also the final beach day for those who are going back to school.

Food is a key feature of any Coney Island visit and there's a wide choice from Danny Boy's cheeseburger pizza to a farm stand full of fruit and vegetables – but most people weren't here for the veggies.

Nathan's was their target destination and their famous hot dogs and fries were being snapped up by many customers for the very first time.

The business owners say the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend is always their best, but they're not giving up hope that the crowds will come out in force for one more day.
