Yonkers water advisory lifted

The Westchester County Department of Health announced it has lifted the boil water advisory for southwest Yonkers.

Test results of water samples taken by the health department and the Yonkers Water Bureau were satisfactory allowing the routine water quality monitoring to continue.

Over 70,000 people in the area south of Ashburton Avenue to the New York City line between the Hudson River and the Saw Mill River Parkway were strongly advised to boil their water before drinking it or using it to prepare food since August 27.

The boil water advisory was in effect as a precaution to protect from any contamination caused by potential ground water infiltration into water mains as a result of the reduction in water main pressure caused by a water main break.

The break occurred Monday, August 27 when a state contractor working on the Saw Mill River Parkway accidentally broke through a 30-inch City of Yonkers water main that runs under the Saw Mill River Parkway near the McLean Avenue exit in Yonkers.
