Manhattan named most expensive place to live in the U.S.

The Council for Community and Economic Research shows Manhattan is the most expensive place to live in the United States.
The organization looked at 300 U.S. cities and judged them on everything from housing to health care to transportation.
Manhattan ranked #1 on the most expensive list.
The Council data found it was more than twice as expensive as the national average.
Brooklyn came in second on the list while Queens ranked sixth and Stamford, Conn. ranked seventh.
The council said about 29 percent of the average urbanite's spending goes for housing, which is why Manhattan and Brooklyn rank so high.
Queens housing prices are lower than in Manhattan and Brooklyn but Queens earns its high ranking because its grocery items, utilities, transportation and health-care costs were higher than Brooklyn's, according to the council.
