MTV is going to cancel "Jersey Shore" after the next season.

The controversial, but once popular show begins its sixth and final season on Oct. 4.

Cast member Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi tweeted, "Yes, sadly it's true. This upcoming season of Jersey Shore will be our last. But it was fricken INSANE. I will always love my roomies!"

The show became one of MTV's highest rated shows in history, drawing 8 million viewers an episode in its early seasons.

The cast, anonymous when the show launched, became infamous for their drunken partying in an out of their boardwalk home in Seaside Heights, N.J.

That image has started to change.  Polizzi, who was once arrested for public intoxication on the beach, gave birth to her first child this past weekend.

The show was moved to Florida for one season and has spawned two spin-offs.
