The treasurer for a group supporting a State Assembly candidate has reportedly resigned after a typo on a mailing to thousands of voters.

Ben Akselrod is running against incumbent Steven Cymbrowitz in the 45th Assembly District in the Sheepshead Bay section of Brooklyn.

The part of the text on the mailer that went out to Democratic voters said:  "The current assemblyman has allowed crime to go up over 50% in our  negrohood so far this year."

The error was first reported by Sheepshead Bites.

The site now says the campaign treasurer for Friends of Ben Akselrod resigned.  Bryan Goldstein said he had agreed to be the treasurer for Akselrod as a favor and had little to do with the campaign other than cutting some checks.

He says he had no part in producing the mailer but agreed to allow his home address to be used on it.

He says decided to resign because he was worried about people trying to contact him after the incident.
