Police: homeless man broke into homes and soccer academy

A homeless man burglarized six homes and a business on Long Island in less than a week, police said.

Andrew Van Bourgondien, 22, broke into of a soccer academy in Lindenhurst on Tuesday, but took off after getting spooked by the alarm, police said. He then broke into a home briefly before running away when the homeowner confronted him, police said.

That is when Van Bourgondien returned to the soccer academy, where two cops cornered him on the roof and arrested him, police said.

Detectives charged Van Bourgondien with six counts of second-degree burglary and one count of third-degree burglary.

He was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Wednesday morning.
