DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) - City firefighters are fighting cuts to the department.

The Detroit Fire Fighters Association filed an injunction in Wayne County Circuit Court on Tuesday in attempt to block the city's plan to eliminate or temporarily close 30 fire companies.

"We're suffering for it," said DFFA president Dan McNamara during a news conference Wednesday. "We're having multiple fires. We're seeing fire casualties that are increasing, firefighter injuries that are increasing. Enough is enough."

The union says the cuts put the people of the city in danger. The firefighters also say the cuts violate the city charter for fire prevention ordinances and regulations.

FOX 2's Al Allen reports a hearing could be held within the next 28 days.

Mayor Dave Bing and his administration aren't commenting on the lawsuit. Officials have said in the past, however, that all city departments had to participate in cuts in order to reduce the city's deficit.
