Side A' Fries serving up burgers with a twist in Detroit neighborhood

DETROIT (MyFox Detroit) -- Inside Sinai-Grace Hospital some of the staffers know something you don't. Side A' Fries, a blink and you miss it hamburger and sandwich joint just down the street, has really good food.

"'Welcome to the flip side.' That's on our receipts. We flip our bun inside out just to be different," said co-owner Vincent.

Why is the restaurant called Side A' Fries?

"We make the fries free."

Vincent and his partners not only make the food, they deliver, often to the hospital up the street. The thing is you could drive right past and never know how good the burger is. Did we mention the fries are hand cut right from Eastern Market?

"Everything fresh. That's what we base everything on. You come on in, give me ten minutes and you're going to get a good, hot, fresh meal."

Which brings us to this. The neighborhoods never get any love. It's always downtown this and midtown that, but on Six Mile there's an authenticity, a looking out for each other.

"Detroit is not as bad as people say it is. Detroit is a good city. I was born and raised here."

Chris owns the barbershop next door to Side A' Fries.

"Just give us a shot, and that's why we appreciate you guys coming here to the neighborhood and trying to prop us up a little bit."

This story is my vote for passing up the name brand chains to give some love to the mom and pops, after all were else are you going to get novelty sandwiches.

"We also have a Krazy Kazoo burger. It comes with corned beef on it," Vincent said. "I cook the corned beef myself, follow my own recipe."
