Gov. Cuomo calls for resignation of Assemblyman Vito Lopez

Governor Andrew Cuomo has joined other lawmakers in calling for the resignation of Assemblyman Vito Lopez.
"Sexual harassment at the workplace cannot be tolerated in any shape or form," said the Cuomo's spokesman. "These are serious allegations and if true, the Governor believes he should resign."
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver removed Lopez as chairman of the housing committee last week and barred him from any leadership posts. Silver also reduced his staff after an Ethics Committee investigation found a number of incidents of unwelcome physical contact with a young aide.
Gov. Cuomo is now the most prominent official to call for Lopez' resignation, joining Rep. Jerry Nadler, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, Public Advocate Bill de Blasio and Council Speaker Christine Quinn.
Lopez, who is also chair of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, is being urged to resign both positions by fellow Democrats.
Lopez has denied that he sexually harassed two female staffers.

The van rear-ended a Taxi and Limousine Commission vehicle at the corner of Church Ave. and Utica Ave. at about 7:45 a.m., said police. One of the pedestrians that was struck by the van was taken to Brookdale Hospital. Four other victims were taken to Kings County Hospital.
