2nd Avenue Station work continues without blasting

Construction work on the Second Avenue subway has resumed less than a week after an explosion sprayed debris and scared residents on the Upper East Side.
The MTA has stopped any further blasting work to the new subway tunnel underneath Second Avenue and continues to investigate the problems from the blast on August 21.
The blast 40-feet below ground to make room for a station's elevator shaft sent debris across 72nd St and 2nd Ave., shattering windows and sending cement pieces and dust particles sky-high.
"After completion of a thorough safety review of the 72nd Street Station construction site of the Second Avenue Subway, we identified several deficiencies that have since been corrected. As a result, work will resume on Monday morning. Blasting activities, however, will remain suspended for the foreseeable future until a more exhaustive safety review is completed and additional safety protocols are put into place," said MTA spokesman Charles Seaton.
The MTA had estimated the blasting would be completed by the end of the summer, but Seaton said it was now unclear how delayed the completion would be as a result of the blast aftermath.
