Bicyclist injured in hit-and-run on L.I.

Suffolk County police are investigating a hit-and-run that critically injured a bicyclist on Long Island early Saturday morning.  

Police say a 47-year-old Jose Calato of Huntington Station was riding his bicycle north on New York Avenue, about 50 feet north of Pulaski Road around 4:42 a.m. when he was struck by a car heading north on New York Avenue.  

The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene. 

Colato was taken to by Huntington Rescue to Huntington Hospital where he was listed in critical condition.  

Police say their investigation is continuing and describe the vehicle as a light-colored SUV. 

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
