Chase Bank customers target of phishing scam

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

If you are a Chase customer, you could be the target of a very sophisticated, and updated phishing scam.

The first thing that happens is that somehow your computer gets infected with a virus.  Then, when you sign onto your Chase account, the virus comes alive.  A pop-up appears, and it asks you to authenticate the account, but it does so in a way that your bank would not do.

It asks for your social security number, driver's license number, ATM card number and its PIN. Chase Bank would not do this.

Chase says if you get this pop-up, don't do any banking. Log off immediately and report the scam to Chase. Then, get your computer checked for the virus. After the computer gets a clean bill of health, get a new user ID and a new password.

If this is affecting Chase customers, it may spread to other financial institutions. So keep an eye out for this scam.
