New livery taxi-hail plan

Posted: Updated:
MYFOXNY.COM -

A City Councilman reportedly has an alternative plan to expanding taxi service now that a judge ruled the plan to add livery car service outside Manhattan was unconstitutional.

Lawyers for the city say they'll appeal that decision. They say millions in dollars could be lost if the taxi service is not expanded.

Lew Fedler (D-Brooklyn) told the NY Post he wants the council to create special 'hail zones' for livery cars outside shopping centers and train stations in the outer boroughs.

Many yellow cab drivers are opposed to the plan saying they can lose business if livery cab drivers are allowed to operate in upper Manhattan and the outer boroughs.
