Aircraft laser beam incidents

Posted: Updated:
BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. (AP) -

Police are investigating two incidents of laser beams pointed at aircraft: a charter flight coming in for a landing at New York's Kennedy Airport and a helicopter dispatched to investigate the report.

If you have any information about these incidents, call the FBI's tip line at 212-384-1000.

The crew of Sun Country Airlines Flight 8800 out of Reykjavik, Iceland, reported the cockpit being hit Tuesday evening, police said.

Records show the Boeing 737-800 landed at Kennedy at 8:36 a.m. on a stopover to Minneapolis, Newsday reported.

A police helicopter en route to investigate minutes later also was hit. Two officers and a medical technician on board were treated at a hospital and released.

It wasn't clear if anyone on the jetliner was hurt.

The FAA and FBI were notified.

The reports were the latest in a series of laser-related incidents in the area.
