Fragments of a human skeleton have been found in a remote area of LaGuardia Airport.
The Port Authority says maintenance workers came across the skeletal remains on Monday evening at about 6:20 p.m. They were clearing weeds, foliage and leaves beyond the airport's fence when they made the discovery.
The remains were found in a marshy area at the water's edge of Flushing Bay. The Port Authority says it is a secure area that is generally not accessible.
The medical examiner's office confirmed they are human bones and are working on a possible identification. Detectives are reviewing missing-person cases in an effort to identify the victim.
