Facebook: communications tool for the deaf

Facebook is arguably the trendiest means of communication today. Others say it's a luxury.

While some may take Facebook for granted, for some high school students in White Plains, N.Y., the site is vital.

Arber Deski, a student at the New York School for the Deaf, said that without technology it would be really hard to communicate with hearing people. Deski and his classmates say Facebook is revolutionizing their relationships with family and friends.

Teachers say over the past 5 years or so, their students have become social media pros. they say the deaf community has come a long way from using the TTY, a telephone that allows people to communicate by typing.

They say the video chat feature on Facebook has been especially helpful.
