The opening ceremonies were held Sunday afternoon at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on the West Side.

The Air Force Demonstration Team known as the "Thunderbirds" performed a flyover in F-16 planes. The Thunderbirds performed a flyover Saturday afternoon over Yankee Stadium prior to the Yankees/Red Sox game.

Following the ceremony, there was an open water rescue demonstration in the Hudson River by two HH-60 helicopters and a Pararescue team. The rescue team is from the New York Air National Guard's 106th Rescue Wing on Long Island.

Mayor Bloomberg declared August 19 through August 21 Air Force Week to celebrate our men and woman of the U.S. Air Force.

The Thunderbirds will flyover Citi Field Monday night before the New York Mets/Colorado Rockies game at 7:10 p.m.
